Sleep Apnoea & Overall Health
Sleep apnoea occurs when your airway is blocked or collapsed during sleep. The condition impacts your ability to function properly and will impact your quality of life. Sleep apnoea can also lead to other serious health issues if left alone, including heart disease, stroke, obesity, diabetes and other.
Sleep Apnoea & Children
Children require a good night’s sleep so that they can learn and function efficiently. Children who suffer from sleep apnoea may experience sleepiness, growth issues, learning difficulties, medical problems or behavioural issues. It’s important to treat your child’s sleep apnoea, as it can easily impact their quality of life.
Treatment for Sleep Apnoea
Sleep apnoea leaves you restless, drowsy and impacts how well you can function during the day, which is why we offer a range of treatments for sleep apnoea, depending on your needs. Our treatments include home sleep studies, oventus, CPAP machine and mandibular advancement splint (MAS).
Adult Treatment
There are a range of treatments we offer, including:
CPAP:This machine uses a mask and hose, or nosepiece to continuously deliver a steady airflow to keep the airway open throughout your sleep.
Mandibular Advancement Splint (MAS):The MAS device is worn over the teeth during the night and works by preventing the soft tissue from collapsing into the airway. This device is useful in treating mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea.
O2 Vent OPTIMA Mandibular Advancement Splint: is a oral device that is discreet, and custom made for each patient and works by using the O2Vent to deliver air directly to your throat. The integrated airway works by bypassing obstructions such as the nose, tongue and soft palate, while the overall device shifts your jaw forward which helps promote an open airway.
Child Treatment
Children who suffer from obstructive sleep apnoea require treatment, as it can have many negative impacts on not only their daily life, but long-term consequences.
Treatment for children can involve the use of a CPAP machine. However a common issue causing OSA is enlarged tonsils, and in this case your child may be referred on to an ENT Surgeon to discuss the removal of the tonsils.
Our dental team will find the suitable treatment to give your child a better night’s sleep.
